Ultimate Yoshi, December 21st, 2014, 9:20 am

So... what do I say? What CAN I say? You all know what I'm referring to. The update rate. It was abysmal. No matter what I did or how I tried, this comic just... I have no motivation for it. I hate making Yoshi & Kirby comics, but I still really want to actually tell the story. It's quite the conundrum.

We've finally come to a close on Chapter 3, though. After two whole years, it's finally over.

I find it very fitting that the very last Yoshi & Kirby comic comes out on the fifth anniversary of the very first Yoshi & Kirby comic. Yes, you read that right. Last comic.

Before you get upset, keep reading.

Yoshi & Kirby has been a longtime comic for me whether I like it or not, but it quickly became the side comic to Kirby Adventure once that started growing exponentially. It's old news at this rate, and the fact that I'm still trying to tell this story tells me something. I SHOULDN'T still be trying to tell this story. It's an idea from a long time ago that I'm trying to make work in these comics, but something about it just drives me away. There's a reason why I have no motivation to make these comics. I'm sorry, but I just can't keep doing this anymore.

As a comic.

Yoshi & Kirby will continue, despite how I made it sound earlier. I still like the story and I've greatly enjoyed the concepts and additions I've added since working on Chapter 3. But when I despise making comics for this so much, I figured that I had to devise an alternative that still allows me to write the story I want to tell and you guys want to read.

The solution I came up with? Doing exactly that. Writing.

Instead of being in a comic format, Yoshi & Kirby Chapter 4 and beyond will pick up where Chapter 3 has left off, only in written format. It could totally qualify as a fanfiction if you want to call it that. Either way, that's how I'm gonna do it from now on.

Granted, this is going to come with some changes. For one, I've never really written in an actual, novel-like manner before, excepting a few inexperienced times when I was much younger. There's bound to be some quirks about my writing as I work out how I'll do it in the beginning. For another, comic dialogue is written much differently than regular dialogue. I can't really have side-jokes that much anymore, such as that fan-loved Sandwich of Power moment, or, from the originals, the time when Kirby kept repeating the word Yoshi over and over again. They just can't really happen in a text format.

There'll also be much less often updates, even considering Yoshi & Kirby's awful schedule. Instead of releasing chapters scene by scene, they're going up chapter by chapter. Meaning I'll have to write the whole thing out before sharing it, unlike comics which are much more segmented. On the plus side, that means you get to read the whole chapter in one go, which might make things easier. All in all, sacrifices must be made, but I think it'll be for the better.

What about this site, though? I'll still be updating here, though. I'll actually be posting updates here whenever I get through a new chapter, so there's still a reason to keep this place in your favorites.

I know some of you might not like this decision, but if you want the full story, this is the only way you're getting it. I just... can't make Yoshi & Kirby comics anymore. I'm sick of them.

But for now, I'm done with Yoshi & Kirby. I won't say when to expect the first written chapter, but it will be coming eventually. For now, I've been Ultimate Yoshi, and I am signing out. Thank you all for reading the comic portion of Yoshi & Kirby and supporting it these five years, and I'll see you for my next side comic. Because there's gotta be SOMETHING to fill that gap, eh?

Aw, that is too bad, Yoshi & Kirby 2.0 is what brought me here to Smack Jeeves :C

Jarkes, December 21st, 2014, 9:59 am

Honestly, I sort of expected this to happen sooner or later...

DarkNut255, December 21st, 2014, 10:57 am

Well, the story was my favorite part of this, so I guess it’s a fair trade-off.

And, now my little hint-dropping in the previous pages makes sense.

Goodbye, Yoshi & Kirby comic. It's gonna be interesting reading this as a fanfiction from now on, but I feel like this could end up being a very good thing for the story.

Thank you Ulti, for suffering through these last couple of pages to finish off the chapter.

My, my, isn't THIS a surprise.

As much as I'm gonna miss the visuals of this comic, the storyline is way more I portant to me anyhow. Good luck with this, Ulti!

SuperScratchkat, December 21st, 2014, 2:06 pm

Ah well, a written story is infinitely better than no story at all!

Jarkes, December 21st, 2014, 3:36 pm

@Luigi_96:

Wait, did you already know he was planning on doing this?

BattleStarX, December 21st, 2014, 5:51 pm

I'm actually not all that surprised. Though its nice to see you're trying to keep the story alive in one way or another.

Though it does beg the question... will we have to call you Ultimate Kirby now? :P

Luigi_96, December 21st, 2014, 7:20 pm

@Jarkes: Yeah, Ulti and I do occasional info-swapping. I also happen to know what his plans for the next side-comic are, but obviously I can't give that away.

ROLROLRORLROLLL!
Ulti Yoshi: Did Keeby will appear Like in The origins?

Ultima527, December 22nd, 2014, 4:51 pm

This sounds like a well thought out decision. It's important not to stretch yourself too thin.

KirbyFighterDeluxe, December 22nd, 2014, 8:30 pm

Seems like a good idea. Though I don't exactly know how you'd upload written documents on Smack Jeeves? Maybe post links to the story on sites like fanfiction.net as a chapter cover to alert everyone when the chapter is out?

Either way, we all got your back.
